Tadpoles and Frogs





We have one tadpole left in our class. We used to have three but unfortunately two passed away :(

We have asked questions to find out more information about tadpoles and frogs.

    I know that tadpoles turn into frogs and once they do they are very hard to keep still as they love to jump every where! I think tadpoles have tails but these disappear as they change and turn into a frog, am I right?

    Hi! Room 7,
    How cool that you have a tadpole in your classroom! I can remember having tadpoles when I was little and I loved watching their legs develop.
    Another class at our school had frogs last year and then had to remember to put the cover back on their tank because they loved hopping out. The class also became expert fly catchers.

    Hi Room 7
    Did you know there are 4 species of native frogs and 3 introduced species in New Zealand. 6 out of 7 of the species are endangered. Hamilton's frog is one of the rarest in the world - about 300 left. They live on Stephen's Island. Can you find out where Stephen's Island is?

    We just found out that Hamiltons frogs live on Stephens Island which is in Cook Strait. We found out that they like puddles from the rain. They hide under boulders to keep moist. Stephens Island is a protected Island and we think this is a good thing because they don't get hurt by people.

    Hi Room 7!
    We have a frog expert in Room 14, Koston! He has many frogs at his house that he keeps as pets! Here are some things that we know about frogs:
    Kharma: some frogs are poison
    Bronte: they are green and can camouflage themselves in the grass. What do you think camouflage means?
    Jared G: Frogs love to eat flies
    Chakyla: When frogs croak a bubble comes up in their thoart.
    Koston: Frogs don't use thier tongues and they don't like water!
